Squalls again

This afternoon we had our first real squall. The squall was heralded by water spouts – we saw one of them from and reach right down to the sea, just before we were swallowed up in the pouring rain. It came after a light and shifty day where we’ve gybed, wooled , packed and changed sails in the sweltering heat almost continuously. So it was really nice this afternoon when it rained enough that we all got to shampoo our hair and rinse off. We felt great – and even greater when Eric announced at dinner time that we are now in first place.
Of course we know that in this kind of weather, there is a lot of luck involved in hanging on to any position, but it’s cetainly good for now. Fish have been playing games with us – or more specifically, with Nick. The wind was ennervatingly light this afternoon, so Nick decided to troll for fish. Just as he pulled the lure in for the approaching squall, a school of leaping dolphins galloped up to us, and we could see absolutely huge fish jumping to avoid the dolphins. Later, the fish came back on their own and just played around us – I’m sure we could hear the laughing,
